James Richardson has been continuously involved in the Travel Retail industry since 1972 when its founder, the late David Mandie AM. OBE, opened his first Duty Free store at Brisbane International Airport.
Over the following decades, the business grew to include locations in Australia, New Zealand and Israel trading under the brands City International, James Richardson, JR/Duty Free and JR/Watch Co. with on- airport, metropolitan off-airport, border crossing, in-flight and cruise liner outlets.
In 2016 James Richardson entered into a Joint Venture agreement with Gebr Heinemann, one of the largest Duty Free companies in the world, to operate the shops at Ben Gurion and Ramon International Airports.
At the end of 2018 James Richardson sold its travel retail business in Australia and New Zealand. It continues its presence in Israel operating shops at Ben Gurion International Airport, Ramon International Airport and border crossings with Egypt and Jordan. The Ben Gurion Airport shop is widely respected as a market leader within its industry and consistently ranks in the top Duty Free stores in the world.
James Richardson is also a financial partner in the duty free business at Tahiti Airport.
